Bog LEJOG has been on the drawing board since 2019 and was originally planned as being a run from Lands End to John O’Groats with Marcus dressed as a toilet. It was a ridiculous idea that was quickly put on hold in 2020 by a certain pandemic that dragged on through 2021 too. 2022 felt like the year it could happen but illness and injury this time scuppered things.
So we’ve hastily revised the plan to now take on the challenge of cycling a 2000km route up hill and down dale from one end of the country to the other. As well as bikes we’ll also be using packrafts to paddle some stretches of river, cross estuaries and make our way over a few lochs.
The variety of land and water and the challenge of carrying everything we need for both forms of transport should make this an exciting adventure!
The rough route for the journey can be found on our route page but we allow a fair bit of flexibility in the exact details.
If you’d like to help out with a patch of grass for our tent or even a hot shower then we’d love to hear from you. We’d also love for people to join in the ride for a few miles or even a few days so again, please get in touch and we can try and co-ordinate this.
MARCUS
2014 was a momentous year for me. In April I set a world record for running a marathon while dressed as a toilet in London. The experience of several thousand people cheering ‘Go Toilet!’ as I ran round the 26.2 mile course was something I’ll treasure for the rest of my life.
Later that year Kirsty and I then set off on an adventure that would take us around the world on our tandem bike. Over the course of 851 days we would discover that the world is a magnificent place full of incredible people.
The UK is still one of the best places to explore by bike and there’s plenty of the best bits that I haven’t seen. I can’t wait to get out on two wheels for this trip and to load up the packraft too!
We’ll be moving slowly, taking in the sights, sounds and smells and discovering what makes this island so unique.
The Charity
We have been interested in the work of WaterAid for over 10 years. During that time we have helped to raise over £38,000 through a number of events and projects including a relay ride from Lands End to John O’Groats and a popular annual Audax cycle event.
Everyone in the world deserves the right to the most basic requirements of clean water and decent toilets and we should have the resources to provide them. Sadly we’re not there yet and until that problem has been solved WaterAid will continue to need support and funding to get us a few steps closer. With this project we hope to not only raise a smile with Marcus running around as a toilet but also awareness and funding for this fantastic cause.
